With my HP 2910al-48g switch working again, I was faced with the need to update to the newest firmware to get the new web interface that replaces the old Java based interface. HP has since removed the latest firmware from their site, but I was able to find a download for it, as well as instructions on how to install the update on this helpful page.
When uploading the new firmware (15.13.0014) over the telnet console using TFTP, the upload appeared to stop before the full file size transferred. And after the validating process was presented with the error “00000K Corrupted download file”. This appears to be a known issue according to an HP Support Alert bulletin, and usually stems from the compact flash card that store the OS not having enough free space for the new firmware, and needing to delete unneeded files first. Unfortunately, none of the commands that were suggested seemed to work. Commands to change directory or list files on the disk resulted in “Invalid input” as a response.
The solution I ended up with, before resorting to taking out the compact flash card and using a computer to remove them, was to revert the firmware to the older and smaller 14.03 firmware still available on HP’s site to leave room for the new version. After transferring it to the primary flash location and rebooting, updating to 15.13.0014 and then 15.14.0016 succeeded with out issue.
